You can feel the panic rising; the tension building. The fear is palpable, and it’s spreading.
As I gazed upon the half-empty shelves in Target yesterday afternoon, I could feel anxiety setting in—and the urge to load up my cart in a similar fashion was a very real temptation.
Why?
One word: Control. Or the lack of it.
It’s why we stockpile hand sanitizer, paper products, and canned goods any time there’s a perceived emergency. To salvage control over a situation we ultimately have very little control over.
But God does.
“Until the storm has ceased
Your voice will rise above the seas
We will not fear
You are still God
Here in the waters deep
Your hand will always be beneath
We will not fear
You are still God”
~ Elevation Worship
Our circumstances may be uncertain but God remains the same. Yesterday, today, and every tomorrow that we face, He is there, He is constant, He is still God—even over a Coronavirus pandemic.
The song continues:
“Before the world began
It wasn’t spoken yet
You were still God
And You are still God
After Your final breath
It wasn’t over yet
You were still God
And You are still God.”
God is on the throne—as He has been since the very beginning, and will be until the very end, and we can rest in the comfort and strength of His constant, steady presence in the midst of a turbulent, uncertain landscape.
As John writes in Revelation 1:17 (TPT), “…he laid his right hand on me and I heard his reassuring voice saying: Don’t yield to fear. I am the Beginning and I am the End.”
Are you yielding to fear today? Finding yourself swept up in the fervor of a panicking world? Look above the mania and fix your eyes on Him.
He is still God. And we can place our absolute trust in Him.
